Framing

We're not asking whose clock is right. We're asking whether 'at the same time' even means anything for two things far apart. The honest answer turns out to depend on who's asking.

When something happens 'now' far away, is it really happening now?

The precise version (Watch)

Einstein's special relativity (1905) showed that simultaneity is not absolute. Two events that are simultaneous in one inertial reference frame are not simultaneous in another moving frame. In a Minkowski spacetime diagram, a moving observer's surface of simultaneity ("now") is a tilted hyperplane rather than a horizontal one. The tilt angle increases with velocity, becoming 45 degrees at c. This is not an optical illusion or an error. It reflects the genuine frame-dependence of which events "happen at the same time." No preferred universal "now" exists across the cosmos.

If it wobbles

Confidently wrong — Don't refute 'now is obviously the same for everyone.' Ask instead, 'For things right here, sure. But for an event a light-year away, how would two of us even check we agreed?'
Dead silence — Scale it down. 'Forget the cosmos. Two events, far apart, and people moving differently. Could they honestly disagree on the order? The light cone says yes. Sit with that.'
Runaway debate — Pull back to the still. 'Hold it there. Let's look at what the spacetime diagram actually shows about who can disagree.'
Tipping into dogma — Name it. 'We're not abolishing time. Cause and effect are untouched. We're just losing the universal now, and noticing how much we assumed it.'
